Bald spots on my head…alopecia areata?
I noticed a bald spot on my head about a year ago. I am 25 years old,and have no previous history of a condition like this. It was right at the top of my head,the size of a nickel,but grew to be about an inch and a half across. It was HUGE. I went to my regular doctor and he did bloodwork and my thyroid,chem screen,cbc,and sed rates are all normal. 3-4 months later the hair started to grow back. So i thought YAY! Now,I have about 8 of them all over my scalp,all about the size of a nickel. I have an appointment at a dermatologist June 10th,and I am already assuming it is alopecia areata because my grandmother has alopecia universalis. Anybody have any experience with this? I hear the treatment is steroid injections in the scalp,does this work? It is stressing me out,and I am afraid that I will end up losing all my hair!!

You need testing for ANTIBODIES as well as TSH. TSH ‘norm’ should be .3 – 3 (w/ most feeling best at < 2) but would not matter if antibodies are present. Indicative of Hashimoto’s Autoimmune Thyroiditis…main cause of HypOthyroid &is worse (...OR Graves Disease - HypERthyroid).
