severe swallowing problems and lupus?
My doctor thinks I may have lupus- I have had swallowing problems for 4 yrs,on and off clotting issues, migraines, hair loss, joint pain, extreme fatigue, skin rashes, cold spells, and “bulging eye”. I’m down to 75 pounds and I can’t eat normally- I have to chew my food and spit it out to avoid choking to death on every bite. I am not anorexic or bulimic- I’m always hungry !! I can’t work or live a normal life and my doc has ordered blood tests (12 of them) that are all related to lupus) My mom had it and she also had one of the worst cases of R/A in the country.
Does anyone else have these symptoms? and how do you cope?
I’m 42 and hoping to reach 43.
Hi,I’m a lupus patient and I know almost exactly what you’re going through. I am so sorry!!I am also very sorry for your mom.
Are you seeking help through a Rheumatologist?
I am also very cold and have a hard time swallowing. For the longest time, they thought I had an eating disorder, too, until they found out that I am a Celiac patient –which is also an auto immune disorder. If you cannot chew, please find a way to drink some nutrition. You need to feed your body something or you really will not make it to 43. Know that you are cared about.
I am constantly in pain and it hurts to sit, stand and even lie down. Tired doesn’t even begin to describe the fatigue. This, unfortunately, comes with the territory. Your doctor will have to help you address this. I pray that he/she can.
Lupus has many overlapping disorders. IF you do come back positive for lupus, please don’t panic. Know that there are over a million people out there like you and I. Most probably many more that they haven’t identified.
I know that you know the medicines have side effects and you already feel crappy. Stay out of the UV light, don’t eat alfalfa, get rest, listen to your good Rheumatologist and read as much as you can on autoimmune disease.
We are here for you…please don’t hesitate to write.
We take one day at a time and it hurts and we struggle, but laugh, cry and talk and write each other through it all.
Good luck and take care. We wish you the best for you and your family.

Which Hair Loss Product Should I Use?
There are so many products that are said to treat hair loss. It is rather difficult to determine the best hair loss product to use. The first step to knowing the product to use is knowing the cause of hair loss. The second step is looking up the different products and how they can affect hair growth.
Some causes of hair loss are natural whilst others are not. The natural causes are due to the way the body responds to certain changes. Hormones play the largest role in hair loss in such a case. The sex hormones of both men and women can have an adverse effect on the growth of the hair if the levels are high. Other causes of hair loss include reaction by the body to some types of medicines as well as the effect of some diseases.
If hair loss is caused by hormones, then one can treat this condition with hormone inhibitors. The common case in men is that the testosterone is converted by certain enzymes to produce another hormone called DHT. This is the hormone that is responsible for hair loss. There are treatments that inhibit the enzymes from converting testosterone. The action of DHT on the follicles is also suppressed. These inhibitors come in the form of drugs and topical applications. Men may be affected by the sex organ function from using this medication. There are lowered libido levels, problems with ejaculation and erection as well as impotence. These drugs should not be administered in women who are pregnant or have the potential to get pregnant. The production of DHT will also be suppressed in the fetus causing males children to have defects. Examples of the drugs are Avodart,Propecia,Procerin and Ketoconazole.
There are other products that can be used to combat hair loss. These also include Rogaine. This one can be used by both sexes. It deals with hair loss in a different manner. It stimulates the follicles such that they go into the phase where there is the production and growth of hair. The follicles are stimulated by the blood whose flow is increased significantly. Blood will also have extra oxygen and nutrients for the follicles to use. Thus, the hairs have more food for nourishment, which is necessary for its growth. Known side effects include growth of facial hair, itching of the scalp, developing a rash as well as some spells of dizziness.
If one does not want to use medication, there are other products that can be used which have negligible or no side effects. These are products like hair lotions, conditioners, oils, toners, shampoos and other similar products. These products only target the scalp area and do not tend to affect other functions of the body. There are so many products to choose from. The list includes products which contain biotin, antioxidants, and herbs.
A dermatologist can determine the hair loss product that you can use. It is thus safer to consult one before you look for products to treat hair loss.
