Newborn Kitten with Hair-Loss HELP!?

Hello! I found a very young pure white kitten outside my house…. she is very dirty, doesn’t seem to have a mother and her skin is dry and flaky, she is also losing hair around her head/ears,paws/arms,and tail areas…. I was curious what this could be as I own pet rats, two dogs and live with my 2 year old neice…I don’t want them to catch anything,I don’t want it to be contagious or serious and I don’t want this kitten to suffer so I’ve taken her in and bathed her with a baby “tear-less”shampoo…I will get pictures up and put the link as well but ANY help would be GREATLY appreciated, thanks!

DO NOT USE HUMAN PRODUCTS ON ANIMALS –BABY SHAMPOO HAS KILLED MANY CATS AND DOGS,BUY KITTEN SHAMPOO FROM THE VET –DID YOU NOTICE THE KITTEN SHAKING AFTER THE BATH? Thats detergent poisoning. :-)

check for dehydration, pinch the skin at the back of the neck –kind of grab it in a fist to scrunch it up,let it go –if it doesn’t IMMEDIATELY spring back then the kitten is dehydrated.
in that case She/he’ll need ELECTROLYTES (pedialyte etc) –from a baby bottle (premature baby bottles with a valve to stop air being ingested are best, available cheaply from the chemist)

Never feed a dehydrated creature –always rehydrate with electrolytes before giving formula or food!!!!!!!!

You also need a kitten formula for newborns, once re-hydrated..Sherleys Lactol Gold Kitten Formula is fit for purpose but there may be better formulas about,I’m not going to recommend any of them since at one time or another I’ve ditched all of them in favour of home made condensed milk and egg yolk + live yoghurt (research the home made stuff,it beats the dried chemical rubbish but you need to know what you’re doing)

-

hair loss is associated with dehydration and malnutrition, also feline herpes is a possibility but that usually goes hand in hand with a nasty gooey conjunctivitis.

also Flea Allergy Dermatitis will cause hairloss,so try a flea collar (no powder or medicine for a weak kitten, just a cut-down flea collar to dissuade them for now)

and ringworm can cause hair loss too –

Those are the most common reasons.

Also check the kittens gums are nice and pink, not blue or pale –that signifies a bad flea infestation practically draining the kittens blood supply (more likely with a weakened kitten such as this as they do not have the nourishment inside to replace the sapped blood)

Hooded Baby Towels by My Munchkin:Benefits

There’s nothing worse when taking your baby or toddler out of the bath, than using a towel which is too small to properly absorb the water before it comes in contact with your own skin and clothes. Many parents end up soaked themselves and need to change their own clothes after already spending so much time bathing, drying and dressing their baby. Apart from this and even if the towel is large enough,it can be very difficult to properly handle the slippery baby while and to then wrap the baby comfortably in the towel when they are slip-sliding out of your hands.

There aren’t many solutions to this but one which has won many awards and continues to give great re-assurance and confidence to moms are the My Munchkin Hooded Baby Apron Towels. Features of these towels are as follows:

  1. They are shaped like a butterfly to easily wrap your baby after the bath.
  2. They are produced with 100% pure organic cotton.
  3. They are gorgeously soft and comfy.
  4. They are designed to keep your hands free whilst taking your child out of the bath and quickly wrapping them up snug as a bug.

Once mum is ready to release the towel from around her neck, this is done conveniently and baby can be dried with the towel. The hood allows his or her head to be covered while drying, keeping them nice and warm and allowing their hair to be towel dried without needing to move the towel up and making baby cold.
